The last missile attack by Russia had taken 20 casualties from the central city of Kryvyi Rih.

Zelensky mentioned that the deadly strikes on Sumy were ballistic missiles and called and appealed to the world for a "strong response" in a statement. The ‘double tap’ tactic

"Russia wants exactly this kind of terror and is dragging out this war," he said. "Without pressure on the aggressor, peace is impossible. Talking has never stopped ballistic missiles and bombs. We need to treat Russia as any terrorist deserves."

It has been reported by Ukraine's Economy Minister Yulia Svyrydenko that strikes hit the city center on Palm Sunday while people were attending church services on one of the busiest days of church going throughout the year.

Two ballistic missiles, Volodymyr Artyukh, head of the military administration in the region, stated were fired by Russia into the city centre. "At that time, a lot of people were on the street," he mentioned.Deadliest attack this year

"The enemy was hoping to inflict the greatest damage on people in the city of Sumy."

A video posted by Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko shows firefighters working at the scene to put out the flames of the burning cars and evacuate a woman out of her home. Visible destruction includes crushed buildings, shattered windows, and piles of rubble in the city centre. Bodies covered with emergency blankets could be seen strewn across the ground.

Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha called it "absolute evil" to have launched the attacks on a Christian holiday and emphasized that the missiles hit a residential part of the city.Ballistic missiles

"We urge partners of Ukraine to add more air defense assets for the country and increase the pressure on Moscow," Sybiha said on his statement in X. "Strength is the only language they understand, the only way to bring an end to the horrendous terrorism."

There was an enormous boom, and thick black smoke quickly ascended into the air. This marked the moment a strike hit Sumy, verified from social media videos by news portals.

Another boom reverberated across the region's military administration as it shared video footage showing the moment of impact of a Russian missile with a structure. Then, wailing emergency sirens were also heard, but some ran screaming away while others lay on the ground.

Some blood-covered face of one woman being assisted could be seen in another video shared by Zelensky. Footage shows emergency workers on site responding to the attack, with several body bags strewn across the ground and a blow-out trolleybus that seemingly has corpses inside.

According to Kaja Kallas, the chief of foreign affairs in the European Union, the incident was termed as a "horrific example of Russia stepping up attacks while Ukraine has accepted a ceasefire without conditions." Another reaction came from French President Emmanuel Macron, who asked for "strong measures to be taken" to implement a ceasefire.

UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Ukraine Matthias Schmale denounced the strike as "in the strongest possible terms" and said that international humanitarian law "nonetheless absolutely excludes attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure".

Russia has intensified air attacks and missile strikes on the Sumy region over the past weeks as it has advanced Ukrainian forces out of nearly the entire border Russian territory of Kursk. Their forces have also taken a few small settlements just within Sumy region.

Other attacks by the Russians across Ukraine's Donetsk, Kharkiv, and Kherson regions have resulted in claims of eight deaths and at least 18 injuries over the last 24 hours.
